75 years, the remarkable story of Sorma
A family, three generations and a history of technology and innovation that began 75 years ago in a small shop near Piazza San Marco in Venice
A journey that continues today and intends to sail full steam ahead towards new, increasingly ambitious goals. This is the story of Sorma, a company that took its first steps in 1950, founded by Alberico Sorgato and Zoe Marano, visionary entrepreneurs who started marketing diamond tools for the artistic Murano glass industry: a unique product, fragile and precious like the city where it was born; which requires excellent thought and tools. And perhaps it is precisely from here that the values of care, respect and the pursuit of quality that still permeate the company today were born.

QUALITY AND SERVICE DRIVE GROWTH
75 years have passed since then and that small reality has been radically transformed, becoming a solid company with an international outlook, guided by the heirs of the same family that founded it. Over the years, the company has carved out the role of an innovative protagonist in the field of abrasive tools and, thanks to the experience it has gained, today the Sorma name is synonymous with the highest quality and service in the field of high-tech diamond tools. It has focused on the most innovative flexible diamond abrasives, playing a leading role in their introduction to the world market in 1980. Year after year and generation after generation, by listening to the market and its needs, Sorma has expanded its offer more and more over the years.
From solutions for glass processing, the range extends to superabrasive tools specific for the processing of stone, composite materials. Following its industrial vocation, superabrasive tools were subsequently joined by cutting tools for the mechanical industry. It is precisely in this last market that the company began important collaborations with leading brands such as Yamawa, Kyocera, LMT and Kemmer, joined over time by its proprietary product lines, Osawa and Nikko Tools. Today Sorma, whose headquarters are in Mestre, operates in 60 countries and relies on the support of around one hundred employees including commercial and administrative staff, logistics, and sales force.
Not far from Mestre is the 4000 m2 modern Sorma logistics center, located in Marcon (VE), in a strategic position a few km from Marco Polo airport in Venice. The Logistics Center is equipped with a clean energy production plant with photovoltaic panels to minimize its environmental impact and is equipped with a 100% automated system. The automation allows for the reduction of error margins to a minimum and greater efficiency in picking and shipping goods.
DIAMOND TOOLS TAKE CENTER STAGE
Sorma tools are produced using different technologies: electrodeposition, vacuum brazing, metal sintering or sintering of polymer materials. They are available in the form of rigid tools and in the form of flexible abrasives to ensure high performance on most materials used by modern industry, including the hardest and most difficult to work with. The offer covers diamond tools for the processing of natural stones, coating ceramics, and construction materials in general, used on stationary machines such as bridge cutters, edge polishers, machining centers, but also for finishing operations with portable machines. In particular, solutions such as Diaface, Fastline, and Diahard XT, which embody all of Sorma’s experience in the sector, ensure excellent results on different materials, meeting the needs of all operators in the sector.

Sorma is also a key player in the mechanical industry with a wide range of superabrasive tools for the finishing and superfinishing of metals. For example, the company provides solutions for the aerospace and energy industries, intended for machining components that are particularly resistant to corrosion, wear, and high temperatures.
THE STRENGTH OF A GROUP
Thanks to a widespread distribution based on a network of qualified resellers, Sorma has been able to build a corporate culture over the years based on listening to the needs of users, managing to integrate its range with products aimed at new processes or new materials. This culture of listening contributes every day to giving substance to its vision which relies on the centrality of the person, on respect, and on the desire to work together as unique individuals within a small community: today as then, these values take on an increasingly strong meaning which are reflected in its way of operating and presenting itself on the market. Sorma promotes a business model based on sustainable growth shared with its commercial partners, distribution network, and customers.
The start of the three subsidiaries to support its activity in Europe - Sorma Bema France (founded in 2016), Sorma Ibérica (2023) and the newly born Sorma Deutschland (2024) - testifies to the daily commitment of a company which, in these first 75 years, has evolved by becoming a solid group that has been able to seize the challenges of the markets in which it operates without losing its family dimension where employees, customers, and production partners are at the center of its work.
