This study investigates the wear behaviour of novel Fe-based composites reinforced with MC carbides, developed as part of
a WC substitution strategy. Four sintered samples were tested using pin-on-disc tribometry against Al2O3 counterbody under dry conditions.
Results show that WC-Co reinforcements provide the lowest worn volume and the most stable friction behaviour, due to effective tribolayer formation. In contrast, the MC-reinforced
sample exhibited some tribochemical activity and a good bond between the reinforcements and the matrix, but suffered from a brittle microstructure and a higher wear rate.
Ongoing optimisation of raw materials and processing aims to improve the performance of MC-based systems while maintaining
their beneficial reinforcement effects... Stone
37) The original stone materials, an essential element for the proper maintenance of monumental cultural heritage Alma Mater Professor, University of Bologna
Abstract: Italy boasts the largest UNESCO-recognized cultural heritage in the world, largely consisting of monumental assets.
This heritage is essentially "stone-based", as it is composed of the lithic materials used in the construction and decoration of these works. Its preservation requires advanced maintenance
interventions, both routine and extraordinary. Extraordinary maintenance often involves replacing damaged stone elements. Although Italy is home to one of the world's
finest traditions in restoration, there is a lack of technical and regulatory references to guide replacement maintenance interventions. Safeguarding cultural heritage also means ensuring
that replacement maintenance uses original materials. This awareness is beginning to be reflected in regional regulations,
but the absence of official guidelines from the Ministry of Culture remains a critical gap... News and Events 50) Fabula Litica: La Foresta Incantata. The process involves downsizing, packaging and shipping radioactive materials, such as the reactor vessel (RV), to an off-site licensed disposal facility. Orano USA is a major supplier of materials and services with decades of experience dismantling and managing used nuclear fuel, as well as packaging and transporting radioactive materials. NorthStar is the largest demolition company in the world, with active D&D operations at multiple USA nuclear sites. CSDA member In-Place Machining (IPM) was contracted by Orano to design, build, test, deliver and provide on-site services for a Multi-Purpose Reactor Vessel (MPRV) Work Platform system. The delivered solution was designed to be used for the specific purpose of supporting the segmentation, packaging and disposal of the Crystal River Unit 3 Reactor Vessel and Reactor Vessel internals... |
